We want to make space for everyone who wants to learn European Portuguese, especially those who struggle in traditional language learning settings. Our goal is to help immigrants feel more integrated in their new home.

Clumsy to Confident: Role-playing everyday situations in Portuguese | with Liliana from The Talking Sardines
Ever frozen mid-sentence at the supermarket checkout, or nodded along at the pharmacy hoping you understood correctly? This is the workshop for you! Join us for a playful, low-pressure evening where we act out the everyday Portuguese conversations that actually trip people up — navigating a restaurant from menu to bill, navigating the till at Pingo Doce, explaining a symptom to the pharmacist. This is a very special edition: hosted by Liliana Gaspar, Portuguese teacher and life coach, and founder of The Talking Sardines. We'll rotate through mini "stations," each set up like a real-life scene, with useful vocab and phrases on hand and a bit of coaching along the way. Come as a total beginner or a rusty intermediate — the goal is confidence, not perfection. What to expect: • Role-play scenarios: restaurant, supermarket, pharmacy (and a couple of surprises) • Key phrases and vocab cheat sheets to take home (Liliana has a survival guide for us!) • A relaxed, playful atmosphere — this is Portuguese as play, not homework • Fellow learners to laugh (and stumble) with About Portuguese and Play Portuguese and Play is the brain and love child of Astrid Lillie, a Portuguese language learner herself. Our goal is to make learning Portuguese more playful and fun, as we believe that this is a way to unlock the virtuous cycle with respect to language learning.
